The World's 50 Best Restaurants 2017 to be revealed in Melbourne on 5th April

The World’s 50 Best Restaurants and Tourism Australia have announced that Melbourne, Australia will be the host destination for the prestigious awards in 2017.

The announcement was made by William Drew, Group Editor of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants, alongside Tourism Australia Chief Marketing Officer, Lisa Ronson, at the Chefs’ Feast, a dinner for the world’s best chefs and restaurateurs, ahead of the 2016 edition of The World’s 50 Best Restaurant awards, held in New York on Monday 13 June. The awards saw Massimo Bottura’s Modena restaurant, Osteria Francescana, crowned as The World’s Best Restaurant 2016.

The World’s 50 Best Restaurants list is a celebration of global gastronomy bringing together a unique community of visionaries across the culinary landscape. The annual awards are based on the votes of The Diners Club World’s 50 Best Restaurants Academy, an influential group of almost 1000 international leaders in the restaurant community. Recent years have seen Australia strongly represented on the list with restaurants Attica, Quay and Brae receiving recognition in 2016. In the list’s 14-year history, other notable Australian restaurants including Sepia, Rockpool, Tetsuya’s, Marque and Momofuku Seiobo have featured.

Tourism Australia Managing Director, John O’Sullivan, said the World’s 50 Best Restaurants awards and event programme provided a natural extension to its Restaurant Australia campaign, which would be amplified through a comprehensive schedule of food- and wine-themed events and activities designed to add value to Australia’s hosting of the Melbourne event.
